A typical coffee table is long and low and designed to sit in front of a sofa, couch or loveseat. The name comes from the frequent use of such tables to support beverages, of course it could just as easily be a tea table or a soda pop table but coffee seems to have stuck. Books which are illustrated and fairly large, typically hard covered of heavy construction, reflecting the lack of need for portability and eye catching have also become known as coffee table books as they offer a guest something conversation inspiring or boredom alleviating to browse. Art and architecture as well as history and entertainment subjects are popular coffee table book genres. For example a book relating to modern cinema is an often conversation provoking fixture on the author’s coffee table as most visitors have a favorite movie they’d enjoy discussing and looking up trivia on.
Sleek and shiny, the modern lines and details found in glass tables add a new dimension to modern elegance. Combined with wood, the elements blend into one another perfectly. Rotating pieces of glass with shapely legs and sturdy bases represent some of these selections while others sing with the possibility of shape. This shade of brown is a calming influence and stylish, too. In brown, it provides a welcoming presence and earthy influence.
